Chief Executive Officer - Southwest
Founded in the mid-1990s, this company, based on technologies from a major research institute, is seeking to strengthen its position in vaccine delivery systems. It is creating new vaccines using these proprietary technologies. After careful review of existing technologies, they are very comfortable with their approach to inhibiting the development of the disease state through their mucosal vaccine approach.
Initially, an investor syndicate in the U.S. and Europe arranged over $20 million. Second round funding of an additional $25 million closed in January of 2002. Products currently in pre-clinical include vaccines against several important microorganisms including respiratory, gastrointestinal, and sexually transmitted diseases. Research and development for both human and veterinary applications are in progress.
The CEO will have the overall responsibility for setting the strategic direction of the company. He will provide leadership to all functions; ensure the timely meeting of designated milestones. Results will be healthy finances, product approvals, successful corporate collaborations, and success product launches. The key will be a CEO with established leadership and credentials in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry. Experience in raising capital from private and/or public sectors high on the list. She/he will have successfully commercialized many new products.
